Sometimes...
Sometimes life throws you a curve, and you have to learn to swerve, but it's never easy. I have realized this today, due to today's events.
You see, this week was RUSH week for PHC at UTA, and, well, I decided that I would give it a shot and go through recruitment. All was well and good this entire week until today. You see, on the 2nd and 3rd day you are supposed to go and pick up your invitations from each sorority that has invited you to come back to their house later that night. Well, yesterday, I received invitations from ALL 4 sororities, but you are only allowed to go to 3 of the houses. So I dropped Zeta Tau Alpha, but with interest, which meant that I was still interested in them, in case anything should happen, or I changed my mind later. So last night I got dressed up for the night's events. I went to the Alpha Chi Omega house first, which was fun, but I just didn't feel like I fit in. Then I went to the Delta Zeta house, and I loved those girls. Most of them I knew very well, and I am very good friends with them, and I felt like I was at home around them. I really liked them. But then I went to the Delta Delta Delta house, and I LOVED it! The girls were so friendly, and one of my best friends is one of them, plus a good friend of mine, of whom I have known since I was like 10 years old, at church. And all of the girls remembered my name, and were very eager to talk to me, and everything, and I felt very welcomed there. So i enjoyed myself very much! By the end of the night, I had already decided which sorority I was most interested in...Delta Zeta and Delta Delta Delta. After the night's festivities, I felt very sure that I would get an invitation from those two for sure.
Wrong! I wake up this morning at 1pm, when I should have gotten up at 10:30am! We were supposed to go and pick up our invitations between 11:45am and 12:30pm, and well i had missed it. I called Jill Franklin, the PHC advisor, and asked if it was too late. She said no, and gladly pulled up my information on the computer...Here's where all my hopes and dreams (a little dramatic, I know, but keep reading) go down the drain...Jill informed me that I did NOT receive an invitation to go back to ANY of the sororities...OUCH and WHOA! I did not know what to say, and Jill apologized again and again saying that she didn't have any explanations for me what so ever. I was completely surprised, and to refer back to the beginning of this post, I was thrown a HUGE curve, and well, I couldn't swerve. All I could do was say ok and hang up the phone...Then I cried.
Shauna tried to cheer me up but it was no use, so I got online really fast to talk to Matt. He tried to make me feel better, but like myself, was completely surprised. But i soon got over it, took a shower, and felt a little better, not to say that I didn't think about it, though. I skipped all of my classes, intentionally actually, which I had decided to do LAST night, so that I could sleep in, but I still had a 2:00pm class, of which I was like, "um...no, I'm not going now." So I didn't. I went to work to get my mind off of things but it was no use. As soon as I got to work, I pretty much wanted to go run and hide, because the Greek Life office is in the basement with the EX.C.E.L. office, so Jill would be there, along with the Pi Chi's who help the rushees decide which sorority would work for them. Those were the last people I wanted to see! As soon as I got there, PK my committee advisor started asking me how RUSH was going for me...Great, right? HA! So of course I couldn't contain myself any longer, and I told him what had happened. Then I decided to go ahead and talk to Jill to see if I could get some questions answered. I found out that I still had a chance to get a bid from a sorority tomorrow, if I'm lucky, meaning that it's very unlikely, but you never know. And if not that, then next week I can find out which sororities are going to be having Continuous Open Bid (COB), which means that some of them may still be able to accept more girls next week. So those are my options.
But WOW! I so did not see any of this happening. That was one big curve thrown my way, and I don't know how to swerve, and I just keep swinging and missing. I don't know what to do now. Everyone tries to make me feel better, but it's not working. Being home alone tonight and tomorrow gives me time to think, but I hate thinking! LOL. So I have been watching TV and listening to my 80's music (Matt, lol, k?) to keep my mind off of it. Luckily, Becca is coming over tonight to keep me company and we are going to get some Taco Bell and ice cream! Hopefully I won't cry too much, lol. Most likely not, but maybe...I'm not too good at swerving, but maybe this is a time for me to learn...?
People keep trying to tell me that maybe this is a "sign" or "it's just not meant to be", but I don't know...We'll see now, won't we?
Thanks for reading, although I know it was quite long! LOL. Have a good night.
